The rule, as Wisconsin writes it

Wisconsin exempts precious metal bullion under 2023 Act 149, effective 23 March 2024. The purity bar is unusually low: coins, bars, rounds or sheets containing at least 35% gold, silver, copper, platinum or palladium, marked with weight, purity and content — or minted by a government authority on that basis. Copper counts, which is rare. Jewellery, works of art, scrap and electronics are excluded, and an exemption certificate is required to claim it.

What this page cannot tell you

Whether tax is actually charged depends on the dealer, not only on where you live: a retailer collects sales tax in states where they have nexus.

Local city and county rates stack on top of any state rate shown here, and several exemptions cover investment bullion but not jewellery or collectibles sold well above melt.
